Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to expand pharmaceutical cooperation

Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have reached an agreement to deepen cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector. This includes industrial cooperation, localization of medicine and medical equipment production, technology exchange, and the implementation of joint investment initiatives. These issues were discussed on August 24 in Tashkent during a business forum dedicated to the pharmaceutical industries of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, according to the Agency for the Development of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Industry.

Agency Director Abdulla Azizov met with the Tajik delegation, led by First Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Population Yusufi Salomuddin.

Representatives of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection of the Population of Tajikistan, the State Supervision Service, its territorial administration in Sughd Region, the State Unitary Enterprise "Expertise and Testing of Pharmaceutical and Medical Products," and pharmaceutical companies from both countries participated in the forum.

The participants analyzed the current state of the pharmaceutical industries in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, existing opportunities, and promising areas for cooperation. Particular attention was paid to developing industrial cooperation between enterprises of the two countries.

The parties also discussed increasing pharmaceutical exports and implementing joint investment projects. The issue of localizing the production of medicines and medical equipment was also addressed.

The Tajik delegation visited the BioPharma City pharmaceutical cluster, where they learned about current projects, production facilities, infrastructure, and opportunities for localization. The delegation was also briefed on the construction of the Pharmaceutical Technical University and its educational opportunities.

The forum included B2B meetings between Uzbek pharmaceutical manufacturers and Tajik companies. Participants discussed the entry of Uzbek products into the Tajik market, expanding mutual trade, technology transfer, and establishing joint ventures.

A demonstration of medicines and medical equipment manufactured in Uzbekistan was also organized for the event participants.

Following the forum, the parties agreed to develop direct contacts between manufacturers from both countries and continue practical dialogue on the implementation of promising joint projects in the pharmaceutical sector.
