Uzbekistan and Syria to expand business contacts
In Damascus, the Uzbek and Syrian sides discussed the expansion of trade, investment cooperation, and direct contacts between entrepreneurs.
Uzbekistan and Syria Intend to Expand Business Contacts
A meeting was held in Damascus between representatives of the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce and about 20 companies operating in various sectors of the Syrian economy. The participants discussed the development of trade and economic ties and the implementation of agreements previously reached at the Uzbek-Syrian business forum in Bukhara.
The talks were a continuation of the dialogue between entrepreneurs of the two countries that began in February. The parties reviewed opportunities for expanding direct cooperation and implementing specific joint projects.
Primary attention was paid to the food industry, the production of building materials, electrical engineering, and light industry. The establishment of direct business contacts in these and other promising areas was also discussed.
Syrian entrepreneurs pointed to the high demand for building materials associated with the reconstruction processes in the country. In this regard, they expressed interest in cooperating with Uzbek construction and development companies.
In addition, the expansion of trade in electrical and light industry products was discussed.
The capabilities of the Uzbekistan Trade House in Aleppo were reviewed separately. The parties assessed the prospects of using it to develop bilateral trade, as well as creating similar trading platforms in other regions of Syria.
Syrian entrepreneurs were invited to participate in a business forum planned to be held in Tashkent in the autumn as part of the first meeting of the Uzbek-Syrian Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain direct contacts between business representatives on a regular basis, organize mutual business missions, and expand the participation of companies from both countries in international exhibitions and fairs.
In addition, the parties intend to intensify work on specific trade and investment projects.
