Uzbekistan and India aim for trade turnover of $5 billion

Uzbekistan and India have set an ambitious goal of increasing mutual trade to $5 billion within the next four to five years. To achieve this, the countries intend to develop specialized programs in key sectors, which will subsequently be integrated into a single joint roadmap, according to Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade Shokhrukh Gulyamov.

As Gulyamov noted, during the talks, the leaders of Uzbekistan and India discussed specific projects in detail, identifying relevant objectives and benchmarks for each area. Based on these decisions, they plan to develop programs that take into account the specifics and driving forces behind the development of each sector.

After the development of individual programs is completed, they are expected to be combined into a comprehensive roadmap for cooperation between the two countries.

In 2025, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and India reached $1.3 billion. In the first seven months of 2026, this figure was approximately $700 million. To achieve the target of $5 billion, the parties plan to maximize the use of existing opportunities and reserves.

Gulyamov cited the agreement on mutual promotion of preferential trade between Uzbekistan and India as one of the most important steps in this direction.

According to the Deputy Minister, the draft of this agreement has already been prepared. A market study is currently underway and is expected to be completed within two to three months. Following this, proposals will be submitted to the head of state for consideration.

Investment cooperation also remains a priority area of bilateral cooperation. Currently, over 400 enterprises with Indian capital operate in Uzbekistan.

Special attention was paid to technological cooperation during the visit. The parties agreed on a separate program for the joint implementation of projects in this area.
