Uzbekistan and India intend to increase mutual trade to $5 billion.

Talks between Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took place at the Kuksaroy residence.

During the meeting, the parties noted the historic significance of the visit, which elevated relations between the two countries to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership. To effectively coordinate cooperation, it was decided to establish a special mechanism at the level of heads of foreign affairs agencies, as well as to intensify interaction through parliamentary friendship groups, the Intergovernmental Commission, and the Business Council.

Expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation was discussed in detail. Last year, trade between the countries exceeded $1 billion for the first time, and the number of joint ventures increased sevenfold. The leaders agreed to take steps to achieve mutual trade of $5 billion by 2030. Significant prospects for industrial cooperation were noted in sectors such as energy, electrical engineering, metallurgy, critical minerals, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and jewelry. Interregional partnerships are also actively developing between the Andijan region and the state of Gujarat, the Fergana region and the state of Haryana, and the Samarkand region and Agra.

Currently, there are 14 direct flights between the countries weekly, and four Indian universities operate in Uzbekistan. To strengthen cultural and humanitarian ties, it is planned to sign a five-year Cultural Exchange Program, as well as regularly hold Culture Days and film festivals. Furthermore, the parties discussed the international agenda and confirmed their intention to continue mutual support within the UN, SCO, BRICS, and other organizations. Following the talks, instructions were given to develop roadmaps with specific deadlines and responsible implementers in all key areas.
