Uzbekistan and BASF Discuss Localization of Chemical Products
Uzbekistan is exploring the possibility of localizing the production of chemical products and technological solutions from the German company BASF for the mining and metallurgical industries. A working meeting was held at the Agency for Industrial Cooperation and State Procurement with representatives of BASF Central Asia.
The main focus of the negotiations was on the production of flotation reagents, special chemicals, and auxiliary materials used in the mining and metallurgical industries at local enterprises.
The meeting participants reviewed the potential of local raw materials and existing production capacities, as well as the possibility of technology transfer. Several options are being discussed to launch production, including direct investment, the creation of a joint venture, contract manufacturing, and a tolling model.
A separate topic of the negotiations was the prospects for supplying products manufactured in Uzbekistan to the markets of other Central Asian countries.
Following the meeting, the Agency intends to send BASF project teasers for 20 types of import-substituting products recommended for development in the republic.
BASF plans to study the received proposals together with the company's regional and global business units. After the analysis, projects corresponding to BASF's areas of activity will be identified.
For initiatives of interest to the company, separate technical negotiations are expected to be held to further develop the projects.
