Urgench-Khiva toll road project increased in cost by $30 million during construction
The cost of the Urgench-Khiva highway, the first toll road in Uzbekistan, is $150 million, said Anvar Davletov, First Deputy Governor of Khorezm region. At the beginning of the year, when construction began, the total cost of the project was estimated at $120 million. Thus, during the construction work, which was carried out in parallel with the design work, the cost of the project increased by $30 million, or 25 percent.

The final cost of the 35-kilometer Urgench-Khiva highway, the first toll road in Uzbekistan, was $150 million. This was announced by Anvar Davletov, the first deputy governor of the Khorezm region.
He participated in the inauguration ceremony of new facilities held on the eve of Independence Day with the participation of the head of state via a video link from the starting point of the new highway.
Davletov said: “Today, we are in the process of commissioning the first Urgench-Khiva toll road, which was built at the expense of an investment of $150 million, dear president.”
In February of this year, when the construction of this toll road began, officials announced that the total cost of the project would be $120 million.
Now, it has become known that the cost of the project has increased by 25 percent during the construction process, which was carried out simultaneously with the design work.
The official announcement in February stated that 17 bridges, 8 overpasses, 1 tunnel and 5 special crossings and water diversion structures would be built for the new highway.
It has now been reported that 15 bridges (two less than in the initial announcement), 8 overpasses, 1 underground tunnel and other infrastructure facilities have been completed.
For information, the project customer is the Directorate under the Roads Committee, and the contracting work was also carried out by organizations under the committee. The sources of financing for the project were not disclosed.
Previously, the toll for passenger cars for a 35-kilometer road was announced as 25,000 soums, and for a shorter distance of 28 kilometers, the toll was 20,000 soums.
