Ukraine is proposing three paths for post-war security guarantees – Zelenskyy
Ukraine is considering three options for security guarantees to be provided after the war ends.
"We are saying that this is a package of guarantees. There is NATO, which everyone is hoping for. But there are also US guarantees, which are currently being discussed with the Americans. It includes the fifth amendment. There is also a coalition of the willing, within which European security guarantees are provided by the US," the president said.
He noted that all these guarantees could be built on the foundation of a strong Ukrainian army. The president stressed that he was talking about the composition of the Defense Forces, both in terms of numbers and quality, which requires "a significant amount of funds."
"Our colleagues in Europe and America know this. Everything has already been calculated on our end. Both the financing issue and the corresponding number of our soldiers are clear so that our state can feel at ease," Zelenskyy added.
The president emphasized that NATO membership is also among the options for security guarantees. According to him, this could be beneficial for both the Alliance and Russia.
"We consider this important. We are important for NATO with our army. Similarly, NATO is very important for Ukraine's security. We are not talking about this in detail yet. But we are discussing it with our partners. Frankly speaking, I believe that our NATO membership is also necessary for the Russians. Because for them, this represents greater security than a Ukraine outside of NATO," the president stressed.
He also commented on the issue of peace talks with Russia.
"Tomorrow or the day after, I want to get signals from Rubio regarding the issues raised in our conversation a day earlier. Kushner conveyed the initial signals to me when he came to Kyiv. He said they discussed this issue with Russia, and Russia supports a trilateral meeting in the format of America, Ukraine, and Russia. A high-level meeting of technical teams will take place in November," the president said.
It should be recalled that earlier, President Zelenskyy stated his readiness to enter into a peace agreement with Russia on the condition that part of Ukraine's territories remains under Russian control. The president also stressed that Russia has achieved no success in Ukraine during the current year.
