Two teenagers in Russia killed a 12-year-old schoolboy under the influence of the "Squid Game"

Two teenage girls in Russia have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a 12-year-old schoolgirl inspired by the TV series "The Squidward Game." Moscow regional police are investigating the crime, which occurred in the Orekhovo-Zuyevo urban district, Meduza reports.

The incident began on August 26 with the disappearance of a 12-year-old boy in the village of Kabanovo. Volunteers were also involved in the search. The next day, the boy's body was found in the basement of an abandoned building with multiple stab wounds. The building used to be a dormitory for a local vocational school.

Two local girls, aged 15 and 16, were soon arrested on suspicion of committing the crime. Investigators have opened a criminal case under the article "Murder".

The media and Telegram channels, citing sources in law enforcement agencies, reported that the high school students had planned the murder in advance. They had prepared knives and gloves. The girls recognized the boy as their neighbor who lives in the same village.

On the day the boy disappeared, they invited him for a walk under the pretext of drinking beer and lured him to an abandoned building. A police source told Komsomolskaya Pravda that the girls wanted to see how people die. According to some sources, the girls may have filmed the murder on their phones, as part of some kind of video challenge. Other sources claim that the suspects deliberately did not take their phones with them to cover their tracks. After the crime, they calmly returned home.

The mother of the deceased boy, Irina, told msk1 that the detainees had planned other murders. According to her, one of the assumptions is that the girls were inspired by the South Korean series "Squid Game", in which the characters compete in brutal games for survival. "I don't know if this is the final conclusion or the investigators' opinion. They came to this conclusion because one of the girls had posters of this series hanging in her room," she said.

A video was also found on the suspect's TikTok page, which included footage of the murders from the series. A resident of Kabanovo said that both girls were not timid or belligerent, but their peers at school rarely communicated with them. "They had a good and friendly relationship with each other. They often talked and walked together. The girls were really like good friends. Now, hearing about this tragedy, I really want to cry," she said.

The woman said that a list of 50 people was found near the girls. The list also included a child who died. He added that the girls had no connection with any subcultures, such as Satanism or the like, but were really into the "Squid Game".

REN, a publication close to the security structures, cited the testimony of those detained. One of the suspects admitted during interrogation that he had long wanted to know "what blood is and what it feels like to kill a person."

Earlier, it was reported that a student opened fire at a school in Thailand on August 7. It was revealed that he had shot his grandparents in their home before the attack. A total of 7 people died as a result of the teenager's attacks. Five of them are considered victims of the Debsirin Nonthaburi School. The student committed suicide after the attack.
