Two Uzbek citizens face up to 20 years in prison for the alleged rape of a 13-year-old girl in Ulyanovsk.
Law enforcement authorities in Ulyanovsk have detained two Uzbek citizens on suspicion of committing a serious crime against the sexual integrity of a minor. The suspects face 15 to 20 years in prison.
The crime reportedly occurred in the city's Leninsky District. According to investigators, the two foreign citizens committed unlawful acts against the 13-year-old girl. A criminal case has been opened against the detainees under Part 4 of Article 131 of the Russian Criminal Code, which provides for punishment for the rape of a victim under the age of 14.
The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, personally requested a progress report on the investigation. Details of the incident are not yet being disclosed in the interests of the investigation and the protection of the rights of the minor.
Investigators are currently working with the suspects. The Investigative Committee will soon petition the court to order pretrial detention as a preventive measure.
Earlier, a court in Vladivostok increased the prison terms of three Uzbek citizens found guilty of gang-raping a woman on a beach. The prosecutor's office twice sought to overturn the verdict, finding the initial sentences too lenient.
