Turkmenistan has launched an electronic visa and online registration for foreigners

The State Migration Service of Turkmenistan (SMS) has launched an electronic visa system and an online registration portal for foreign citizens.

A presentation of the new digital services was held at the State Migration Service. The event was attended by heads of foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenistan. Meanwhile, Turkmenistan's ambassadors abroad joined the meeting via video link.

The electronic visa system operates on the basis of the migration.gov.tm portal. Through it, foreigners can submit documents online to obtain an entry permit to the country. The official portal of the Migration Service operates as a separate digital service of the agency.

Additionally, the website rgstr.migration.gov.tm, designed for the online registration of foreign citizens, has also been launched. Through this platform, tourists, entrepreneurs, and diplomats can submit documents for migration registration.

Officials state that digitizing migration procedures will shorten the time required for processing documents and reduce bureaucracy.

Prior to the introduction of the electronic visa, foreigners wishing to make a tourist trip to Turkmenistan usually had to obtain a prior invitation through the receiving party or a tour operator, and then apply for a visa. In April 2025, amendments were made to the Law "On Migration" under which an invitation is not required to obtain an electronic visa. At the same time, officials have not yet publicly announced the terms of operation of the new system, including the cost of the e-Visa, processing times, and the full list of required documents.
