A toll road will be constructed on the Samarkand-Bukhara route
As part of his visit to the Bukhara region, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting dedicated to the development of the region's economy and improving the population's living standards.
"We have come with new initiatives worth 380 billion dollars that will bring positive changes to the economy of Bukhara and the daily lives of its people," the head of state said.
First, the issue of providing drinking water and sewerage networks was considered. In this direction, a $385 million project is being implemented with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. Another $248 million will be attracted for its second stage.
Thus, the water supply for 1.7 million residents across all districts and cities of the region will be improved, and 775 thousand people will be connected to the sewerage network. Centralized drinking water coverage will be increased from the current 80 percent to 95 percent.
Our President noted that people are waiting for these changes and instructed those responsible to accelerate the projects.
Ambitious plans have also been set to improve the region's transport links. This year, the reconstruction of the A-380 highway passing through Bukhara will be completed.
Next year, a 69-kilometer section of the M-37 road within the region will be modernized. Within the framework of this project worth $200 million, a 4.5-kilometer bypass road will also be constructed around the city of Bukhara.
It is planned to construct a modern cement-concrete toll highway on the Samarkand – Bukhara route. This road is expected to reduce travel time between the two cities from the current five hours to one and a half hours. A new railway line for a high-speed train is also envisaged along this route.
Our President instructed officials to finalize the master plans for the highway and railway projects and to initiate negotiations with partners.
