In Uzbekistan, there are plans to introduce liability for promoting marriage between minors.
Dilnoza Kattakhonova, Deputy Chairperson of the Family and Women's Committee, announced at the Senate plenary session that the relevant draft law provides for strengthening penalties related to early marriage.
In particular, it is proposed to impose a fine of 10 times the BCA (Base Calculating Amount) on individuals who promote marriage with minors for the first time.
According to current legislation, liability exists for parents, the person marrying the minor, and the individuals who perform the religious ceremony for such marriages in cases involving the marriage of a minor.
According to the committee, based on reports received from women's activists, 348 early marriages have been prevented in the past period.
