Reducing the marriage age may be allowed in only two cases

In Uzbekistan, it is proposed to clearly define the circumstances under which the marriage age can be reduced by one year.

This was announced by Dilnoza Kattakhonova, Chairperson of the Committee on Family and Women, during a plenary session of the Senate.

According to her, a draft law on amending Article 15 of the Family Code has been prepared and is currently under review by the Presidential Administration.

In accordance with the draft, the district or city khokim (mayor) will be allowed to reduce the marriage age by a maximum of one year only in cases of pregnancy or the birth of a child.

Additionally, an automatic restriction has been set through the "Adliya Plus" mobile application and my.adliya.uz to prevent individuals under the age of 18 from submitting an online application for marriage. Such an application can only be accepted after the relevant decision of the khokim is entered into the system.
