The work of khokims, the "mahalla seven," and banks will be combined under the coordination of the Deputy Prime Minister

In Uzbekistan, issues related to the activities of mahallas are planned to be brought to a single weekly meeting chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister for work with mahallas.

This was discussed on September 9 at an expanded meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, dedicated to employment and population income growth.

As noted at the meeting, based on a recently signed presidential decree, the position of Deputy Prime Minister — Chairman of the Mahalla Association of Uzbekistan was introduced.

He has been tasked with forming a unified system to coordinate the work of khokims, district departments, the mahalla "seven," and banks, as well as integrating the electronic platforms they use.

Now, on issues related to mahallas, leaders coordinating the activities of the "seven" should not hold separate meetings. All topics will be considered once a week under the chairmanship of the Deputy Prime Minister, with the participation of all responsible officials.

The meeting also emphasized that in every mahalla, there are active residents and representatives of the older generation who are interested in community life. It is proposed to unite them around the mahalla and involve them in public and creative initiatives.

According to the head of state, this approach should help overcome welfare dependency and indifference, as well as increase resident participation in solving local issues.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed that the proper organization of work in the mahalla, bringing state policy down to the lowest level, and providing every family with a sustainable source of income must become key tasks for leaders at all levels.

Earlier, by a presidential decree dated September 5, the position of Deputy Prime Minister — Chairman of the Mahalla Association of Uzbekistan was introduced into the structure of the Cabinet of Ministers. At the same time, the number of management staff in the executive structure of the Cabinet of Ministers was set at 235 people.

Since January 2024, the Mahalla Association had been headed by Kakhramon Kuranbaev. Reports of his resignation appeared earlier, but the reasons for the personnel decision and his next place of work were not specified.
