Khokims will now spend 3 days a week dealing with poverty and employment issues
A new system for working with poverty will be introduced in Uzbekistan. This was announced on September 3 at a meeting chaired by Shavkat Mirziyoyev, dedicated to discussing issues of taking work on poverty reduction and increasing public income to a new level.
According to this system:
- leaders responsible for the "mahalla seven", regional and district khokims, as well as banks will switch to an enhanced work regime;
- headquarters led by the khokim will be established in each region and district;
- banks and employment promotion agencies will assist these headquarters in resolving local issues;
- regional, district, and city khokims, along with the entire economic complex, will spend three days a week dealing exclusively with poverty and employment issues.
At the meeting, it was stated that while the poverty level has decreased and the number of needy population has declined, the results of the officials' activities in turning some mahallas into areas free from unemployment and poverty are insufficient. Shavkat Mirziyoyev criticized some regional leaders, stating that they lack either the knowledge or the patience to provide people with jobs.
