It has become known that along the banks of the Syr Darya River, in the section passing through the Turakurgan district, local entrepreneurs have created recreation areas and are developing businesses. Among the services offered are boat rides for vacationers.

Three of ten such boats were involved in the incident that occurred on August 23.

"There were six women on my boat..."

"That day, I took six women on my boat. They asked, 'Drive slower, there are elderly people among us, they are afraid,' so I drove slowly. While I was driving, two boats passed by, and I let them pass. Then, suddenly, another boat appeared from the left and struck my passengers... If it had hit me from the side, there shouldn't have been a fatality.

"I trained in Tashkent to operate a boat and received a special license," said boat driver Nurmukhammad Khabibullaev, who is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Boat trips have been suspended.

"On the afternoon of August 23, there was a commotion on the river. I saw two boats colliding. People went into the water to help the victims. There were no drownings—those boarding boats are usually given life jackets, and everyone had them.

After this incident, all the boats were pulled ashore. An unexpected accident occurred, and the sisters who had come for a vacation died," said witness Abdulla Abdumannonov.

"My son had been driving the boat for 8 years."

"We had set up a business on the riverbank. That day, my son put his clients on the boat and took them upstream. One of the other boats malfunctioned under the bridge. As he was being towed, my son's boat suddenly appeared. That's how the collision occurred.

He had no way to avoid the oncoming vessel; his primary goal was to save his clients. He struck the stopped vessel. Then, he dropped his clients off and rescued them.

My son is currently under investigation at the Department of Internal Affairs. He had been driving a boat for eight years. The Department of Emergency Situations issued him a driver's license," said Zulkhumor Madusmanova, the mother of one of the boat's drivers.

Two women, who turned out to be sisters, died in the collision.

The Investigative Department of the regional Department of Internal Affairs has opened a criminal case under Article 260, Part 3, Subparagraph "a" of the Criminal Code (Violation of traffic safety rules or the operation of rail, sea, river, or air transport), and investigative actions are underway.
