The Uzbekistan men's team climbed to sixth place in the world chess rankings for the first time.

The Uzbekistan men's chess team reached a historic high, taking sixth place in the updated World Chess Federation (FIDE) World Rankings released on September 1. Over the past three months, the team has made an impressive leap, climbing nine spots.

In July, Uzbekistan was in 15th place with an average rating of 2575. By August, the team had risen to eighth place with a rating of 2626, and by September, having gained two more spots, it had consolidated its position in sixth place.

In the current rankings, Uzbekistan has surpassed such strong teams as Azerbaijan (seventh place) and Ukraine (ninth place). However, the gap with Azerbaijan is minimal, just one point: 2628 to 2627.

The United States remains the world leader with an average rating of 2725. India is second (2705), and China is third (2664). They are followed by Russia (2641) and Germany (2629).

The Uzbek team is just one point behind the fifth-ranked team in the world. France, Ukraine, and the Netherlands are also in the top ten.

In August, Javokhir Sindarov demonstrated an outstanding result, finishing third at the 2026 Sinquefield Cup tournament in St. Louis and winning $42,500 in prize money. The winner of this competition was American Wesley So, who defeated India's Rameshbabu Pragnanandhaa in a tiebreaker.
