The Senate of the Oliy Majlis has approved a law on strengthening the protection of children from all forms of violence. The document establishes harsh punishment for sexual offenses against children under the age of 14. Perpetrators face imprisonment for up to 25 years or life imprisonment. Uzbekistan's Senate approves law on life imprisonment for child abuse
The Senate of the Oliy Majlis has supported a law aimed at strengthening the protection of children from all forms of violence.
The document introduces severe punishment for sexual offenses against children under the age of 14. For such acts, perpetrators could face up to 25 years in prison or life imprisonment.
The law completely rules out any mitigation of punishment. Those convicted of child abuse are prohibited from being released on parole, receiving amnesty, or being pardoned.
The bill has been sent to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for signature.
