Deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis approved a bill aimed at strengthening the protection of children from all forms of violence and forwarded it to the Senate for consideration.
This refers to the bill "On amendments and additions to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the improvement of the system of protecting children from all forms of violence."
Earlier, on September 30, deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis passed this bill in its second reading. At that time, it was reported that for the rape of children under 14 and the forcible satisfaction of sexual desire in an unnatural form, it is proposed to establish a punishment of up to 25 years of imprisonment or life imprisonment.
The document also provides for changes in the procedure for working with children who have become victims or witnesses of violence. In particular, interrogations of minors are planned to be mandatorily video-recorded, and victimized children will be provided with legal assistance at the state's expense.
In addition, the bill proposes to restrict suspended sentencing and parole for crimes that intentionally resulted in the death of a child. For a number of crimes against the sexual freedom of children, it is also planned not to apply statutes of limitations for prosecution and execution of punishment.
The bill must now be considered by the Senate.
