The cause of the emergency landing of the S7 plane that issued a distress signal over Kazakhstan has been named
An aircraft of the Russian airline S7 Airlines, en route from Novosibirsk to Makhachkala, made an emergency landing in Omsk after issuing a distress signal over Kazakhstan. Preliminarily, the cause was a drop in engine oil level.
The aircraft captain decided to alter the route and divert the plane to Omsk. The liner landed safely at the local airport.
There were 173 passengers on board. According to preliminary data, no one was injured. Passengers and crew members are waiting for the opportunity to continue their journey to Makhachkala.
The emergency situation became known after the Flightradar service recorded the transmission of code 7700 by flight S7 7099. In aviation, it signifies a general emergency and is used to alert controllers to the need for special attention to the aircraft.
The incident attracted particular attention against the backdrop of a recent occurrence involving a Flydubai plane, where a fight between pilots led to a signal of a possible hijacking and an emergency landing. During the flight, the co-pilot attacked the captain, after which the aircraft transmitted code 7500, indicating unlawful interference with the flight, and abruptly changed altitude. The liner ultimately landed safely in Saudi Arabia. Later, as part of the investigation, the co-pilot confessed to intending to crash the plane.
