New Urgench airport terminal to be managed by South Korean company for 19 years

Following the completion of reconstruction, South Korea's Incheon International Airport Corporation will manage the new passenger terminal of Urgench airport for 19 years. This was reported to a Podrobno.uz correspondent by Yoo Byung-nam, Project Manager at Incheon International Airport Corporation.

Incheon International Airport Corporation was founded in 1999. The company is engaged in the construction, management, and operation of Incheon Airport, as well as implementing consulting projects and participating in the management of overseas airports.

Incheon began implementing international projects in 2009 with operational support for Erbil Airport in Iraq. Since then, the company has secured 39 projects in 18 countries. In Uzbekistan, it previously participated in projects related to Tashkent Airport, and in 2025, it was selected as the preferred bidder for the Urgench airport development and management project.

"The essence of management for us is service. Over 25 years, we have accumulated our own know-how in the service sector," he said.

According to him, the Korean side intends to adapt this experience to Urgench to make passing through airport procedures more comfortable and faster for passengers. At the same time, the scale of the two airports differs significantly, so Incheon's technologies cannot simply be fully transferred to Urgench — they will be adapted to local conditions.

Incheon's authority will primarily extend to the new terminal and its associated supporting infrastructure. The receiving and dispatching of aircraft, as well as their maintenance, will remain with the Uzbek side.

On August 17, the reconstruction project of Urgench airport was presented to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Following the modernization, the air harbor will be able to accommodate wide-body Boeing 747 and Airbus A350 aircraft.
