Urgench Airport will be able to serve 3.5 million passengers per year

Following the modernization, the design capacity of Urgench International Airport is planned to be nearly tripled — from 1.2 million to 3.5 million passengers per year.

This became known following a press tour of the air harbor, which was attended by a Podrobno.uz correspondent.

As the director of Urgench Airport, Oybek Matkarimov, reported, one of the key facilities will be a new passenger terminal with an area of about 39 thousand square meters. Its capacity will reach 1.3 thousand passengers per hour.

The terminal will separate the flows of international and domestic passengers, feature modern check-in, security screening, and baggage handling systems, and will also be equipped with VIP and CIP lounges, Duty Free, and food service outlets. The total cost of the project is 242 million dollars: 134 million is allocated for the private partner's facilities and 108 million for the state's.

It is also reported that the number of weekly flights to Khorezm has increased from 16 to 102. The authorities attribute the development of the transportation infrastructure, among other things, to the growth of tourist flow to the region.
