The United States, through its diplomatic missions, has issued an ultimatum to other countries demanding an immediate halt to all trade ties with Iran, the Axios portal reported, citing sources.
In addition, the US authorities are seeking to ensure that states identify and suppress any actions that could disrupt Washington's plans to increase economic pressure on Tehran.
"Earlier this week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio directed all US embassies worldwide to deliver a formal diplomatic demarche regarding Operation 'Economic Outcast' to the highest levels of host governments," the publication says.
The US is threatening those who do not comply with these conditions with sanctions and loss of access to the dollar system.
The publication specifies that special instructions were received by US diplomatic missions in Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Doha, London, Berlin, Hong Kong, and several Central Asian countries. They are required to seek the closure of all branches of the Iranian banks Melli and Saderat in these states, which Washington believes may be linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
As a reminder, on August 19, White House chief Donald Trump announced that the US had begun an "economic war and isolation" of Iran. He expressed confidence that these measures would be of "unprecedented scale." On August 27, Mohsen Rezaee, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, stated that Tehran warns of potential damage to US economic interests in the Middle East if sanctions pressure on the Islamic Republic is tightened further.
