This system was previously successfully launched on Buyuk Ipak Yuli Street (covering 13 intersections), around Amir Temur Square, and on a small section of the Small Ring Road.
Gazeta journalists conducted their own testing, driving along Rustaveli Street from the Southern Railway Station to the Grand Mir Hotel and back. They confirmed that the traffic light remained green for almost the entire route, even during morning rush hour, when traffic typically slows.
According to video footage published by the Tashkent Traffic Management Center, test measurements showed a speed of approximately 50 km/h. In response to Gazeta's inquiry, the center's representatives clarified that the "green wave" is optimized for speeds of 50-55 km/h.
According to the Traffic Management Center, the system's implementation has significantly reduced travel times. A trip from the Southern Railway Station to the city center now takes 8 minutes instead of the previous 11.5 minutes, and the return trip takes 8.5 minutes instead of 12 minutes. This represents a 30% reduction in travel time.
The Traffic Management Center explained that to effectively use the "green wave," drivers should start moving on a green light and maintain a steady speed, avoiding sudden acceleration and braking. In this case, they will arrive at the next traffic light precisely when the green light turns.
"The implementation of the 'green wave' is not aimed at increasing speeds, but at ensuring smooth and safe traffic flow," the center emphasized. At the same time, the system does not create unreasonable restrictions or threats to pedestrians.
The Traffic Management Center also noted that the "green wave" configuration is the result of complex modeling and manual work by experienced engineers. Both vehicle and pedestrian traffic are taken into account.
"Traffic light signal plans are calculated based on traffic volume, intersection capacity, and the need for safe pedestrian crossing," the Traffic Management Center commented to Gazeta.
