The former khokim of Namangan was sentenced to 11 years in prison.

The former mayor of Namangan received an 11-year prison sentence.

The sentence for the former mayor of Namangan, Anvarjon Otakhuzhaev, was handed down in the criminal court of the Uzbekistan District of the Fergana Region.

He was found guilty of several crimes, including embezzlement or misappropriation (Part 3 of Article 167), fraud (Part 3 of Article 168), abuse of power or official authority (Part 2 of Article 205), abuse of power or official authority (Part 2 of Article 206), negligence (Part 1 of Article 207), forgery in official matters (Part 2 of Article 209), and bribery (Part 3 of Article 210) of the Criminal Code.

The court imposed a final sentence of 11 years' imprisonment. Furthermore, Otakhuzhaev is disqualified from holding high-ranking positions and positions involving financial liability for a period of three years.

In the same case, three other defendants were sentenced to prison terms ranging from seven to 10.5 years. Two others received two years and six months of correctional labor, and one received three years of restricted freedom.

As a reminder, Anvar Otakhuzhaev was detained by the State Security Service in September 2025. According to the investigation, he conspired with the head of a shoe company, promising to assist in obtaining a permit for the construction of a multi-story building on a 35-hectare plot of land. They asked for $60,000 for their services.

Otakhuzhaev assumed the post of khokim of Namangan in December 2023.
