Former Namangan city governor sentenced to 11 years in prison
He was arrested on suspicion of taking a $60,000 bribe.
The former governor of Namangan city has been sentenced to 11 years in prison, the courts of Fergana region reported.
According to the verdict of the Criminal Court of Uzbekistan dated August 7, 2026, Anvar Otakhojayev, born in 1972, was found guilty of a number of articles of the Criminal Code while serving as the governor of Namangan city. In particular, he was charged with committing crimes under Article 167, Part 3, Subparagraph “a” (embezzlement or embezzlement), Article 168, Part 3, Subparagraph “v” (fraud), Article 205, Part 2, Subparagraph “a” (abuse of authority or position), Article 206, Part 2, Subparagraph “a” (exceeding the scope of authority or position), Article 207, Part 1 (negligence in office), Article 209, Part 2, Subparagraph “a” (forgery of office) and Article 210, Part 3, Subparagraph “a” (taking bribes).
He was sentenced to imprisonment for a total of 11 years in accordance with Part 3 of Article 59 of the Criminal Code, with deprivation of the right to work in official and materially responsible positions for a period of 3 years.
In this criminal case, 3 more defendants were sentenced to imprisonment for a period of 7 to 10.5 years, 2 to correctional labor for a period of 2 years and 6 months, and 1 defendant to restriction of liberty for 3 years.
It is hereby notified that the parties have the right to file a complaint and protest against the verdict of the court of first instance in the Fergana Regional Court in the manner and within the period established by law.
Anvar Otakhojayev was detained during an operational operation in September 2025. He was arrested on suspicion of taking a bribe in the amount of 60 thousand dollars. Otakhojayev was appointed to the position of Namangan city governor in December 2023.
