The first candidate for the presidency of Kyrgyzstan has submitted documents to the CEC

The first candidate for the presidency of Kyrgyzstan to submit documents to the CEC was 52-year-old Aimen Kasenov. He officially announced his intention to participate in the elections, which will be held on January 27, 2027, and decided to run as a self-nominated candidate.

Kasenov confirmed to the BBC that he intends to take part in the upcoming campaign. According to him, the election program has already been prepared and is titled "Land, Water, Trust." He declined to reveal further details, explaining that this could be interpreted as campaigning.

Kasenov was born in Bishkek and has worked both in the oil and gas sector and in government structures. From 2007 to 2015, he headed the company Gazprom Neft-Kazakhstan. After that, he served as an advisor to the Mayor of Bishkek, and in 2016–2018 he was a member of the Board of the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund.

In the 2021 presidential election, Kasenov had already attempted to secure the highest state office. At that time, 0.91% of voters cast their ballots for him.

The nomination of candidates for the new elections started on September 25 and will last until November 13, 2026. Politicians Omurbek Suvanaliev and Syymyk Zhapykeev had previously expressed their intention to run, but no official applications have been submitted to the CEC yet.

To participate in the election, a candidate must be at least 35 years old, fluent in the state language, and have lived in Kyrgyzstan for a total of at least 15 years. In addition, the candidate needs to collect at least 30,000 voter signatures and pay an electoral deposit of one million soms — about 11.4 thousand dollars.
