In the city of Oleshyki in Ukraine's Kherson region, the evacuation phase of the humanitarian mission has concluded. Those wishing to travel to Kyiv-controlled territory will be transported via Russia and Belarus.

Evacuation of the population from Russian-controlled Oleshky has been completed

According to DW, the completion of the evacuation was announced on the evening of October 30 by Russian Ombudsman Yana Lantratova. David Arakhamia, a member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, also confirmed this.

According to Arakhamia, the Ukrainian delegation and residents wishing to leave for Ukrainian-controlled territory headed to the Russian city of Anapa. From there, they will be taken by plane to Belarus and then by bus to Ukraine.

A total of 25 buses designed for 750 passengers, as well as ambulances for people with limited mobility, were prepared for the evacuation. However, according to the AP agency, Russia and Ukraine did not disclose the final number of people evacuated from the city.

Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets expressed hope that such humanitarian missions would continue under the coordination of US First Lady Melania Trump. He stressed that the agreements reached in cooperation with the Russian Ombudsman made it possible to provide practical assistance to people.

Food, medicine, and other necessary humanitarian aid were also delivered to residents who wished to remain in the city.

Oleshky is located on the Russian-occupied left bank of the Dnipro River. Prior to the start of the full-scale war, nearly 24,000 people lived in the city. On the eve of the evacuation, according to various estimates, 1,700 to 2,000 residents remained.

In June 2023, after the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant dam, a large part of the city was submerged. In recent months, shortages of food, medicine, and drinking water have further worsened the situation of the population.
