The Chamber of Commerce and Industry named Uzbekistan's key performance indicators over 35 years.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan has released key socioeconomic indicators for the country's 35 years of independence, presenting a comparative analysis of data from 1991 to 2026.

According to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Uzbekistan's resident population increased from 20.6 million in 1991 to 38.2 million by January 1, 2026.

The country's gross domestic product has demonstrated significant growth, increasing from $6.4 billion in 1994 to $147.1 billion in 2025. Foreign trade turnover over the same period reached $82.8 billion, compared to $3.3 billion in 1991.

Uzbekistan's export volume in 2025 reached $34.2 billion, significantly exceeding the 1991 figure of $1.8 billion. Investments also showed significant growth: from $1.1 billion in 1991 to $48.5 billion in 2025.

Industry and construction also demonstrated significant positive dynamics. Industrial production increased from $3 billion in 1991 to $87.5 billion in 2025. Construction volume increased from $611 million in 1995 to $25 billion in 2025.

The education system has significantly expanded since independence. The number of higher education institutions increased from 52 in the 1991/1992 academic year to 215 in the 2025/2026 academic year. The number of comprehensive schools increased from 8,557 to 11,118 over the same period.

The number of medical institutions also increased: the number of hospitals grew from 1,388 in 1991 to 1,972 in 2024. Life expectancy increased from 66.4 years in 1991 to 75.4 years in 2025.

Changes have also affected the level of household ownership of cars and mobile phones. In 2010, there were 21 cars per 100 households, but by 2025, this figure reached 61. The number of mobile phones per 100 households increased from 145 to 359 over this period.

Tourism has also increased significantly: while 1.9 million tourists visited Uzbekistan in 2012, this number reached 11.7 million in 2025.

The number of operating enterprises and organizations as of January 1 increased from 201 thousand in 2010 to 474.9 thousand in 2025.
