**The Academy of Sciences commented on the relocation of the Navoi Literature Museum**
In recent days, various opinions and comments have been circulating on social networks regarding the temporary relocation of the funds of the Alisher Navoi State Museum of Literature to storage sites, the temporary suspension of the museum's activities, and the future use of the existing building.
The Academy of Sciences commented on these reports.
It was reported that the relocation of the museum's collections to temporary storage facilities is being carried out to preserve the national literary heritage, ensure the integrity and safety of rare sources, and conduct an inventory of them. The relocation of the museum's manuscript and lithograph sources, as well as materials related to the archives of writers and poets, has been organized in the established manner.
During the primary inventory process, certain discrepancies were recorded between the initial accounting data and the identified quantitative indicators of museum items. In particular, differences were identified in the number of rare manuscripts, lithographic publications, and materials related to the archives of writers and poets of Uzbekistan.
For information: On June 9, 2026, 847 titles of rare manuscript sources from the list, which were in permanent storage in the museum's "Rare Manuscripts and Lithographs" fund, were placed in a special storage room of the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan. The transfer and acceptance work was carried out with the participation of a responsible commission.
At the same time, during the primary inventory of the funds, certain discrepancies were also identified between the initial accounting data and the quantitative indicators of existing items. In particular, it was recorded that the number of rare manuscripts was 847 instead of 831, lithographic publications were 1,491 instead of 1,334, and materials related to the archive of writers and poets were 189 instead of 173. Also, 1,450,188 documents were accounted for under the personal fund.
Currently, existing accounting documents, inventory books, and fund lists are being cross-checked to determine the cause of these discrepancies. Upon completion of the verification, the data will be clarified and formalized in accordance with the established procedure.
It is stated that although the museum is temporarily closed to visitors and researchers, the staff of the institution continues their activities. Inventory of funds, clarification of documents, and protection of museum items are being carried out in stages.
After the institution's new building, planned to be built in the New Tashkent area, is put into operation, it is envisaged to move the funds there and resume the museum's activities. The issue of the future use of the museum's existing building will be resolved by the relevant competent organizations based on the established procedure and adopted decisions.
The Academy of Sciences emphasizes the need to preserve the museum funds, ensure accuracy and transparency in their accounting, as well as effectively organize the future activities of the museum.
"Preserving cultural heritage is an important task not only for relevant institutions, but for the whole society. Therefore, it is important to provide accurate and complete information on the state of the museum's funds, inventory results, storage conditions of items, and issues related to the future activities of the museum," the report says.
