Saturday's program began with a sensational result: Hull City, returning to the Premier League after a nine-year break, defeated Manchester United. Both goals were scored by central defenders from set pieces. Adjaye, who scored in the Premier League five and a half years ago, scored a goal with a precise shot. And before half-time, he forced Mandy Lammens, who had a good chance to score after a free kick, to clear his own goal for the second time.
In the second half, Michael Carrick brought on Rashford, but the score remained level until the end. The visitors had more possession, more chances and more shots, while Hull were focused on maintaining their lead and defending deep. In the final part of the game, the home goalkeeper Tzolakis made a crucial save. He saved Mbeumo's tricky shot and prevented the game from becoming more intriguing. In the end, the Tigers defeated Manchester United in a Premier League match for the first time in their history. The Mancunians, however, are consistent in one thing: this team has lost the opening match of two consecutive seasons since the formation of the Premier League.

After a strong summer transfer campaign and a full pre-season camp, Tottenham were widely expected to be in contention for the top flight. But Spurs, who barely managed to survive in the league last season (17th), were unlikely to make a complete turnaround in the short term. Brentford started Saturday's game in a strong position, and Sangare, one of the club's summer signings, immediately showed how good a player he is. The former Lens midfielder played a wall-style with a team-mate near the penalty area and passed the ball to Lewis-Potter, who was poised to shoot at goal. Then Kinski embarrassed Spurs. The goalkeeper, who played a key role in the team's escape from the championship at the end of last season, failed to clear the ball - his teammate, under pressure, intercepted the ball, and the shot on a quick counterattack was not very dangerous, but instead of clearing the ball out of the field, the goalkeeper threw it under the opponent's feet - 0:2.
The "Bees" scored their third goal at the beginning of the second half by scoring a rebound from the goalkeeper. A little later, the score could have been even greater, but Igor Thiago failed to score a clear shot from 11 meters - he managed to deceive the goalkeeper, but the ball went over the post. In the end, Brentford held on to this score and celebrated their first home victory against Tottenham in the Premier League. For the Londoners, this was their 40th defeat in away matches since the start of the 2024/25 season. Wolverhampton Wanderers, who were relegated to the Championship at the end of last season, have a worse record (44). Tottenham are in crisis.

**Real Madrid line-up:** Courtois, Hausen, Konate, A. Carreras (Cucurella, 64), Dumfries (Alexander-Arnold, 80), Valverde, Bernardo Silva (Camavinga, 80), Bellingham (Espi, 80), Vinicius Junior, Arda Guler (Diomande, 64), Mbappe.
**Warnings:** Calatrava, 32. Riedel, 59. Exposito, 84. Pere Milla, 90. Paul Lozano, 90 – Vinicius Junior, 32.
Madrid, who had rested for the first round, traveled to Catalonia for the second round of La Liga. The match in the first round was postponed due to the late return of most of the team from the World Cup. The match against Espanyol was very tense and everything was decided in the last minutes.
Jose Mourinho, who returned to the Madrid team, started right-back instead of Trent Alexander-Arnold, but one of the new players brought in this summer, Denzel Dumfries. In turn, Cucurella, who was brought in to play left-back, was left on the bench and Carreras was trusted. Also, new players Konate and Bernardo Silva entered the starting lineup, while Diomande remained on the bench.
The first goal of the game did not have to wait long: in the ninth minute, Vinicius scored a free kick near the left wing, Guler provided Bellingham with a goal pass. Soon after, Arda could have become the author of the second goal, but the ball was taken away from Mbappe's feet by the opponent's defender, who was going one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
Midway through the half, Madrid gave the initiative to the opponent and was punished for it. The hosts had possession for a few minutes and equalised in the 30th minute with a simple combination: Xavi Hernández sent Alex Calatrava into a comfortable position, who took advantage of the opportunity. Towards the end of the first half, Roberto Fernandez spared Real and missed a shot from a few metres.
In the 64th minute, Mourinho brought on Carreras and Guler, allowing Cucurella and Diomande to make their debuts. Ian Diomande kept the opposition defenders at bay for the rest of the game, and it was his activity that gave Valverde a comfortable opportunity. However, the Uruguayan midfielder's shot went over the bar.
In the 80th minute, Camavinga, Trent and the club's new striker Carlos Espi also joined the game. Mourinho's plan was clear: to crush the opposition's defence, which had been put on the bus, with a series of attacks. And in the end, this plan worked. In the added minutes of the game, Carlos Espí was the first to reach the ball in the attack launched by Mbappe and managed to score the winning goal in his first match for Madrid. Last season, the team lacked a wild card like him.
At the same time, during the game, the old problem at Real Madrid often showed itself: Vinicius and Mbappe are still interfering with each other, they do not feel each other well, and because of this, the attacks do not reach the end. This time, Mourinho was saved by the width of the squad.
**Athletic – Sevilla 1:3**
**Goals:** Aso, 15 (0:1). Edjuque, 50 (0:2). Romero, 57 (0:3). Paredes, 70 (1:3).
**"Athletic" composition:** Simon, Paredes (Rincon, 74), Alvarez, Berchiche, Areso (Lyaport, 58), Gerenabarrena (Ruiz de Galarreta, 83), Canales, Sanset, Berenger, Inyaki Williams (Williams, 58), Guruseta (Sannadi, 58).
**Seville's lineup:** Vlahodimos, Kastrin, Sangante (Carmona, 68), Suaso, Iglesias, Agume, Guridi (Guillen, 46), Peque Fernandez (Romero, 46), Oso (Diaz, 78), Serra (Edjuke, 46), Ure.
**Casualties:** Guruseta, 25. Ruiz de Galarreta, 87 - Peque Fernandez, 22. Serra, 25. Guridi, 39. Romero, 90. Guillen, 90.
**Removals:** Berchiche, 11.
Edin Terzic failed in his first official match as Athletic coach, but this was due to unexpected events at the start of the match. The most experienced players in the Basque team put the team in a difficult position. First, Berchiche was sent off in the 11th minute for a last-ditch foul. Secondly, a few minutes later, Unai Simon, who became a world champion with the Spanish national team and set the tournament record for the longest clean sheet, gifted the opponent a goal. He threw the ball to the feet of the opposing midfielder Aso in a simple situation. Athletic, despite being reduced to ten men, played on the attack, but failed to score.
Sevilla, who chose the most pragmatic style of play based on the score, nevertheless took advantage of the numerical advantage in the second half and ended the intrigue of the match with two attacks in a short period of time. With nothing left to lose, Bilbao again rushed forward and slightly reduced the score with a goal from Paredes. The hosts created more scoring chances, but the Andalusians played more accurately and after their second consecutive victory, they became the leaders of the tournament table.
