Tajikistan-Iran trade turnover reaches $254.3mn in 1H26

In the first six months of 2026, trade between Tajikistan and Iran reached $254.3 million, marking a year-on-year increase of $32.8 million, or 14.8%. This surge occurred as both nations explored avenues for greater collaboration in the energy, oil and gas, and transport and logistics sectors, according to Khovar, which cited Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources.
This figure was disclosed during a meeting in Tehran between the Tajik delegation of the Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Technical, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation and Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref. The discussions centered on opportunities to deepen economic and trade relations, with a particular emphasis on the oil and gas industry.
Furthering these discussions, Tajikistan’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Daler Juma, met with Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad. Their talks focused on the potential supply of Iranian petroleum products to Tajikistan, including diesel, aviation fuel, and crude oil. The officials also considered enhancing cooperation between Tajik and Iranian companies within the oil and gas sector.
Transport and logistics were also key topics. During a meeting with Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh, both parties discussed advancing bilateral cooperation in transportation, cargo movement, and logistics, specifically addressing routes for delivering petroleum products and crude oil from Iran to Tajikistan.
Additionally, the Tajik delegation engaged with Iranian Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi to discuss strengthening energy sector cooperation. They also reviewed the progress of agreements made at the most recent bilateral Joint Commission meeting, which took place in Dushanbe in May 2026. Officials from both countries conveyed their willingness to expand mutually beneficial economic ties and develop joint projects in areas of common interest.
Previously, it was reported that Tajikistan and Iran recorded $119.6 million in bilateral trade during the first quarter of 2026, with new cooperation agreements signed across energy, transport, investment, science, and technology. In 2025, Iran became Tajikistan’s fifth-largest trading partner, as bilateral trade grew by 28%, primarily driven by Iranian exports of petrochemicals, construction materials, and food products.
