Tajikistan, Iran, Afghanistan agree to establish trilateral road transport corridor

Tajikistan, Iran, and Afghanistan have reached an accord to establish a trilateral road transport corridor, a move designed to bolster regional freight connectivity. This agreement follows the signing of a cooperation protocol during a recent meeting held in Mashhad, Iran.

Representatives from the three nations formalized the pact after discussions attended by Reza Akbari, who heads Iran's Roads and Transport Organization; an Afghan delegation led by Yarmuhammad Ramazan; and a Tajik delegation spearheaded by Deputy Transport Minister Shoista Saidmurodzoda.

During their session, the participants assessed existing transport networks, addressed obstacles hindering cross-border freight movement, and explored avenues for expanding road transport collaboration. The signed protocol outlines the fundamental framework for launching the Iran–Afghanistan–Tajikistan road transport corridor.

According to Afghanistan's Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, this new corridor will facilitate the movement of commercial cargo between Iran and Tajikistan via Afghan territory. The ministry stated that the initiative aims to enhance transit cooperation and improve transport connectivity among the three countries.
