Tajikistan has amended the agreement on the joint operation of the power systems of the CIS countries
Tajikistan has approved a protocol amending the rules of interaction between the power systems of the CIS countries. This decision will preserve the mechanisms of mutual electricity supplies and assistance in emergency situations.
The corresponding resolution was signed by the country's government on September 12, 2026. The amendments were made to the agreement on the parallel operation of electric power systems, which has been in force since 1998.
This refers to the coordinated operation of national power systems with a single frequency. States can exchange electricity and, if necessary, use mutual power flows. In addition, the agreement provides for the creation of capacity reserves.
The possibility of electricity transit through the territories of the participating countries is separately established. It is carried out taking into account the technical capabilities of the grids and agreed conditions.
The interaction mechanism also operates in emergency situations. In the event of accidents or natural disasters, the countries undertake to promptly assist each other. At the same time, each national power system is responsible for supplying its own consumers.
