Turkey and seven Islamic countries have opposed the settlement expansion plan near Jerusalem.
The foreign ministers of Turkey and seven other Islamic countries condemned Israel's ongoing settlement policy in the Palestinian territories and rejected the E1 settlement plan east of East Jerusalem. This was stated in a joint statement released by the Turkish ministry and signed by the foreign ministers of Turkey, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
The diplomats expressed categorical opposition to settlement activity and condemned acts of violence against the Palestinian people and their property.
The document emphasizes that such actions violate international law and relevant UN resolutions and pose a serious threat to regional and international peace and security.
The foreign ministers warned that the implementation of the E1 plan facilitates further annexation, undermines the geographical integrity of Palestine, and creates obstacles to the creation of a unified state within the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. The ministers believe such steps are a direct challenge to international efforts to resolve the conflict, including US President Donald Trump's peace initiatives and commitments to prevent the annexation of the West Bank.
