Statements by Iranian diplomats regarding Samarkand – through the lens of analysts

Today's live broadcast of Kun.uz's "Geopolitics" program also discussed the statements made by Iranian embassies claiming that "Samarkand is part of the Persian cultural heritage."

During the discussion, while some experts assessed this as caution, others expressed the view that such an approach indicates Tehran's hidden imperialistic ambitions.

However, analysts are unanimous on one point: linking Samarkand's architecture exclusively to Persian civilization leaves aside the historical role of the Timurids.

Furthermore, the presence of Turkic peoples in the Iranian government dates back even earlier than Timur (Tamerlane) and continues to this day.

On October 24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan summoned Iran's ambassador to Tashkent and demanded the deletion of posts by several embassies describing Registan as "Persian heritage."
