Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to Korea opened new opportunities for cooperation
The state visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Republic of Korea became an important milestone in the development of relations of special strategic partnership between the two countries.
The key event of the trip was the talks with the President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae-myung. The parties confirmed their intention to bring bilateral cooperation to a qualitatively new level.
During the visit, Shavkat Mirziyoyev also met with the Speaker of the National Assembly Cho Jung-sik and Prime Minister Han Seong-sook. These meetings discussed the development of inter-parliamentary ties, as well as issues of trade, investment, technology, and transport and logistics cooperation.
A special place in the program was occupied by the Uzbek-Korean business forum, which was attended by more than 300 representatives of government agencies and business circles of the two countries. The President of Uzbekistan held separate talks with the heads of major Korean companies and financial institutions, including Lotte, Hyundai, KIA, Rotem, Shinhan, KIND, and the Exim Bank of Korea.
Following the forum, agreements were reached on the implementation of investment, trade, and economic projects worth $12 billion. A partnership program with the Exim Bank of Korea worth $8 billion was also agreed upon.
As part of the visit, the launch and start of construction of a number of joint projects in the chemical industry, automotive industry, electrical engineering, polymer production, medicine, and robotics took place.
As noted, the agreements reached are aimed at attracting advanced technologies, expanding industrial cooperation, and creating new high-tech industries in Uzbekistan.
The program of the visit will continue with Shavkat Mirziyoyev's participation in the first "Central Asia — Republic of Korea" summit. This meeting will be the first in such a format with the participation of the leaders of the five Central Asian states and the Republic of Korea. The summit is expected to give interregional cooperation a more systematic and long-term character.
