Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization
On September 7, Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization, Ian Saunders, who is in Uzbekistan to participate in the seventh Global Canine Forum in Tashkent.
According to the President's press service, issues of further expanding practical cooperation in improving customs administration, strengthening the capacity of customs authorities, and combating offenses were discussed. It was noted that with the support of the organization, Uzbekistan has joined a number of international conventions in the field of trade facilitation, modern customs control mechanisms have been introduced, and the Strategy for the Development of the Customs Service until 2030 has been developed and adopted.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to further digitalization and harmonization of customs procedures, improvement of the regulatory framework, as well as training and professional development of personnel. The relevance of these issues was emphasized in the context of preparing Uzbekistan for membership in the World Trade Organization.
In conclusion, an agreement was reached on the joint development and adoption of a "road map" providing for specific measures aimed at further deepening cooperation and improving customs administration.
On the same day, the head of state received a delegation of the People's Republic of China led by Liu Haixing, Deputy Director of the Office of the National Security Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. During the dialogue, issues of further expanding multifaceted cooperation and practical partnership between Uzbekistan and China were reviewed.
The 7th Global Canine Forum of the World Customs Organization, which will be held in Tashkent on September 7–9, began its work on Monday. In the initial discussions, experts from the World Customs Organization and the National Canine Center reviewed standards for the accreditation of regional canine training centers, the detection of synthetic drugs, modern methods of training service dogs, and issues related to ensuring the effective operation of canine units in various operational conditions.
