President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Islam Karimov Scientific and Educational Memorial Complex and laid a wreath at the monument to the first president of Uzbekistan.

According to the presidential press service, Islam Karimov led Uzbekistan during the most difficult and responsible period in the country's history. His name is closely associated with the achievement of independence, the restoration of national statehood, and the country's path to independent development.

"Independence, first of all, returned to us our honor and glory, our sacred religion, our native language, and our forgotten national values. Thanks to independence, we realized our identity and demonstrated to the whole world that we are worthy successors of our ancestors, whose names are always revered. In this sense, honoring the memory of those who made a great contribution to creating the foundation of our independence, ensuring peace and stability in our country, and serving the welfare of our people is an important spiritual value," the report says.

The Quran was recited and prayers were read at the ceremony. Islam Karimov's services to ensuring the independence of Uzbekistan, peace and stability, and improving the welfare of the people were remembered.

Representatives of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis, the Presidential Administration, the Cabinet of Ministers, ministries and departments, intellectuals, and the public of Tashkent also laid flowers at the foot of the monument to the first president.

Commemorative events were also held in the cities of Samarkand and Karshi.
