Shavkat Mirziyoyev identified the most important tasks facing the SCO
On September 1, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev participated in the anniversary meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek and identified the most urgent tasks for the future activities of the organization.
According to the presidential press service, the meeting proposed the development of the conceptual vision “SCO – 2040: Common Development Space”. The Head of State noted that the main goal of this concept should be to form an interconnected and stable space where investments, technologies and knowledge would be freely exchanged, large infrastructure and industrial projects would be implemented, and direct contacts between regions, businesses and people would expand.
One of the important priority areas was the development of the SCO Industrial Cooperation Map. This map combines special economic zones, production processes, sales markets and logistics systems in a single universal digital window created for businessmen, investors and state structures.
Launching the SCO Development Bank
Among the measures that need to be implemented immediately, it was noted that it would be appropriate to launch the SCO Development Bank and for the Council of Heads of Government to begin forming a portfolio of projects in the fields of transport, energy, industrial cooperation and digital infrastructure.
The leader of Uzbekistan welcomed the initiative of President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping to establish a global organization for cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence and suggested that the SCO establish a partnership with this new technological alliance. He also noted the importance of creating an open multilingual data corpus of the organization and expressed readiness to hold an SCO forum on artificial intelligence and new digital solutions.
The need to develop a single agenda within the SCO on food, water and energy security in response to climate change risks was emphasized. In order to promote this agenda, it was proposed to establish a specialized SCO mechanism that would coordinate the exchange of comprehensive programs, technologies and advanced knowledge.
Cooperation in the field of water and energy efficiency
The development of the SCO technological cooperation program in the field of water and energy efficiency until 2035 was indicated as one of the important steps in this direction.
The expediency of establishing a council on the integration of railway spaces of the SCO member states in order to form a comprehensive network system of international transport corridors was noted.
Resumption of regular dialogue with representatives of Afghanistan
It was emphasized that maintaining peace and stability in Afghanistan is a key condition for the security and development of the region. In this regard, an initiative was put forward to resume regular SCO dialogue with representatives of Afghanistan.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed confidence that the adoption of the Regulations on the Universal Center for Countering Security Threats and Risks in Tashkent will usher in a new stage in the institutional development of the organization, noting that all necessary conditions will be created for the effective functioning of the center.
In order to further strengthen the bonds of friendship between the fraternal peoples, it was proposed to prepare a cooperation program for the preservation and popularization of traditional art and intangible cultural heritage for 2028-2030.
In conclusion, the Head of State congratulated Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on assuming the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Documents were signed at the end of the meeting
A document signing ceremony was held after the meeting. In particular, the Bishkek Declaration, the Protocol on Amendments and Addenda to the SCO Charter of June 7, 2002, the Declaration on Strengthening Multilateral Partnership in Ensuring Nuclear and Physical Nuclear Security, and a set of important documents aimed at further strengthening priority areas of cooperation were adopted.
The event, chaired by the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadir Japarov, was attended by the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, the President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkion, the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the President of China Xi Jinping, the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, as well as the Secretary General of the SCO Nurlan Yermekbayev and the Director of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure of the organization Ularbek Sharsheyev.
How did the first day of the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Bishkek go?
Shavkat Mirziyoyev, accompanied by his wife, visited Bishkek on August 31. They were met at Manas International Airport by the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan - Head of the Presidential Administration Adilbek Kasimaliyev and other officials. Within the framework of the SCO, the President met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and received the US President's Special Representative for South and Central Asia Sergio Gore. He also met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and discussed issues of further developing strategic partnership and allied relations between the two countries.
On the same day, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his wife attended the opening ceremony of the VI World Nomad Games in Bishkek. Other guests who visited within the framework of the SCO also attended the event.
