Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with the head of the Korean Parliament

As part of his state visit to the Republic of Korea, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the country, Woo Won-shik, on September 15.

During the conversation, it was emphasized that the parliaments of the two countries play an important role in strengthening the special strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and South Korea.

Currently, inter-parliamentary "friendship groups" are active, and regular exchanges of parliamentary delegations have been established. Additionally, the practice of exchanging experience between the relevant committees of the legislative bodies of the two countries has been put in place.

It was also noted that the "Electronic Parliament" project is being implemented in both chambers of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan with the support of the National Assembly of Korea and the Korea International Cooperation Agency.

At the meeting, the need to create a special cooperation mechanism to ensure parliamentary monitoring over the implementation of agreements reached at the highest level was noted. In this regard, primary attention will be paid to agreements in trade-economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to hold a series of events in the direction of "parliamentary diplomacy" in 2027 to mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and South Korea.
