“Russia will not stop the war for negotiations” — Lavrov

Russia is ready to negotiate with Ukraine, but will not stop the war during this process. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced this in New Delhi, where the BRICS summit is taking place.

“If (Volodymyr Zelenskyy) wants to meet, let him come (to Moscow),” Lavrov said.

His statement came after the Ukrainian president said he was ready to meet with his Russian counterpart in Miami. Zelenskyy expressed readiness for negotiations with Putin at the G20 summit scheduled for December.

Meanwhile, Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov called this meeting “impossible.” He states that negotiations between the presidents can only take place in the Russian capital. When asked whether the Kremlin is considering an alternative venue for the negotiations, Peskov replied, “We are ready to meet with him (Zelenskyy – ed.) in Moscow.”

Zelenskyy and Putin have not met in person since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The Russian president has not attended G20 summits since 2019. In early September, US President Donald Trump's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv with the aim of restarting peace negotiations. Foreign publications later wrote that the negotiators' visit yielded no results.
