Rubio was not asked a question in Russian – the circulated video is taken out of context

Yesterday, a short video from the press briefing with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at the Registan circulated, causing widespread discussion. In reality, the question to Rubio was not asked in Russian, and the journalist was a Bloomberg reporter. The situation arose because he mistook the local language for Russian.

It was revealed that the person who asked Marco Rubio a question was not a representative of the local media, but Eric Martin, a journalist for the Bloomberg agency. He addressed the Secretary of State in English. Marco Rubio then asked him whether he knew Uzbekistan's local language.

The journalist said he knew broken Russian. The Secretary of State then added that the local language is Uzbek, but although Russian is not the state language here, many people understand it.

The mention of the language occurred during this brief exchange, sparking discussions. In particular, many people mistakenly thought the journalist was a representative of the local media and criticized him.
