Two high-speed trains collided in Spain's Toledo province. As a result of the incident, at least 50 people were killed and 179 people were injured. Train service between Madrid and Andalusia has been suspended, and flights are being canceled at train stations.

In January of this year, a major railway accident also occurred in the province of Cordoba in southern Spain. Then, too, two high-speed passenger trains collided – an Iryo company train traveling from Malaga to Madrid and a Renfe company Alvia train heading from Madrid to Huelva. At that time, 46 people were killed.

The train collision in Cordoba was the largest railway accident in Spain since 2013. 13 years ago, an Alvia train derailed at the Santiago de Compostela station in Galicia. As a result of the incident, 80 people were killed and another 145 were injured.
