A bus struck a stationary freight train near the French entrance to the Channel Tunnel, injuring the driver and 18 passengers, according to French authorities.
The bus was carrying lorry drivers who were due to board a shuttle rail service when it hit the train at the tunnel’s loading platform in Coquelles, near Calais.
A local official said two people were seriously injured and taken away by helicopter, although no one’s life seemed to be in danger.
Local sub-prefect Agathe Cury said freight services and Eurostar passenger traffic through the tunnel were not disrupted by the incident, which happened at 19:27 (17:27 GMT), apart from a short pause to allow the injured to be evacuated.
She added that everyone involved in the crash was male and of different nationalities.
