Putin and Trump discussed the war in Ukraine and the restoration of Russia-US relations
"The main focus of the conversation was on settling the Ukraine issue. Donald Trump clearly put forward the idea that it is expedient to end the conflict as quickly as possible, which would immediately open up significant and wide-ranging prospects for the full restoration of US-Russia relations. Especially, in his opinion, this would be reflected in trade and economic ties, which promise huge benefits for both countries. Donald Trump is interested in achieving a breakthrough in this regard during his presidency. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin supported this sentiment," Ushakov said.
According to him, the conversation, which took place after the visit of the US President's special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Moscow and Kyiv, lasted for an hour and was "constructive and very open" in spirit.
"As you understand, the conversation was of an official nature, so I probably cannot share many important details and nuances with you. The results of the visit of the American representatives were assessed positively, and work in this direction, as well as in some other directions, by the way, will be continued," Ushakov said.
According to him, Putin gave Trump a detailed account of how Russia sees the situation on the battlefield and the prospects for its development.
"By the way, what the Americans could practically do to end the hostilities sooner was also noted," Ushakov said without going into details.
"Taking into account the rumors that Russia allegedly has hostile intentions against European countries, it was emphasized that we have no aggressive plans towards Europe, not even in our thoughts. The circulated fabrications about the Russian threat only serve for Europeans to mask aid to Ukraine and the increase in their own military spending," Ushakov said.
According to him, Putin and Trump agreed to stay in touch and to quickly connect by phone as necessary.
