An attempt was made to illegally smuggle over 52 kilograms of hashish and opium into Uzbekistan from Afghanistan

In the Surkhandarya region, customs officers thwarted an attempt to smuggle 52.6 kilograms of hashish and opium from Afghanistan. The drugs were hidden under the floor of an empty truck's trailer and wrapped in multiple layers to make them harder to detect during inspection.

The truck arrived at the "Ayritom" border post on the evening of October 1. During the inspection, a service dog reacted to the vehicle, after which it was sent for an in-depth search. A 33-year-old man from the Termez district was at the wheel.

Under the floor of the trailer, 98 packages were found: 79 of them contained hashish with a total weight of 42.3 kilograms, and another 19 contained 10.2 kilograms of opium. According to the customs service, the seized batch corresponds to nearly 340,000 single doses.

In total, since the beginning of the year, customs authorities, in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, have thwarted the illicit trafficking of more than 1.9 tons of narcotic substances.

Earlier in the Surkhandarya region, law enforcement officers intercepted over 40 kilograms of opium. Later, through a controlled delivery, the suspected recipients of the shipment were detained.
