Over 13 kg of drugs attempted to be smuggled into Uzbekistan from Thailand

An attempt was made to smuggle over 13 kg of drugs into Uzbekistan from Thailand. Customs officers detected the shipment in a passenger's luggage, and subsequently detained its recipient in Samarkand.

On September 5, a 51-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan arrived on a flight from Thailand. During the inspection of his luggage, customs officers found suspicious substances in three wine bottles and spice packages.

Expert analysis revealed that the containers held 7 kg 580 g of hashish oil. Tetrahydrocannabinol was detected in the substance's composition.

During operational activities, it was established that the man was supposed to deliver the drugs to Samarkand for $1.8 thousand. According to customs authorities, he received the assignment from a handler via Telegram.

In Samarkand, customs officers detained a 47-year-old man who was picking up the shipment. A search of his home revealed another approximately 5.5 kg of hashish oil and dried hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Thus, law enforcement officers thwarted the illicit trafficking of 13 kg 80 g of drugs. According to expert estimates, this amount could have been sufficient for approximately 200,000 people.

The black market value of the seized substances could exceed $1.7 million. Customs authorities have initiated a criminal case regarding the incident.
