Oregon Governor Proclaims 1 September Uzbek Independence Day

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek has officially designated September 1, 2026, as Uzbekistan Independence Day within the state, as announced by the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Seattle.

The proclamation, which Governor Kotek signed on August 18 in Salem, the state capital, commemorates the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan's independence. It underscores the nation's autonomy, its extensive cultural legacy, and its dedication to peace, economic well-being, and national advancement. Oregon's State Secretary, Tobias Read, also affixed his signature to the document, under the state's great seal.

The declaration draws attention to Uzbekistan's continuous progress in economic and social reforms, its increasing involvement on the international stage, and its initiatives to bolster regional collaboration in Central Asia. It further observes the ongoing growth of bilateral relations between the United States and Uzbekistan, spanning areas such as commerce, investment, technology, education, renewable energy, tourism, and humanitarian outreach.

The document recognizes the efforts of the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Seattle, which covers Oregon, in cultivating cultural, economic, educational, and humanitarian connections between Uzbekistan and the state.
