The New York (USA) Department of Education has decided to ban the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the educational process for elementary and middle school students. This was reported by American media outlets such as Politico, The Daily News and The New York Times.
According to them, the department will announce this ban on September 2, and it will come into effect next week. The use of artificial intelligence in the preparation of certain tasks will be allowed only from the 9th grade, that is, from about 13-14 years old.
According to sources, the new rules will also restrict the use of gadgets in educational institutions for preschoolers and elementary school students. High school students will also be allowed to use AI in their studies to a "limited" extent, but they will be able to use it in some courses and for some assignments. At the same time, the rules do not specify how students' use of AI will be monitored.
Earlier, the New York government presented a document that would allow students to use AI in the preparation of a number of assignments, including research and creative projects. According to media reports, this caused widespread criticism from parents and the public.
